Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the Placard app and this website collect, how it's used, and the choices you have. "Placard", "we" and "us" mean the people who run the app.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and, if you set one, a password. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider, and we can't read it.
- Profile: your username and, if you add one, your name.
- Things you add: visits, dates, ratings, notes, exhibitions you saw, your Want to Visit list, and who you follow.
What's public
Placard is a social app. Your username, name, visits, ratings, notes, Want to Visit list and follows can be seen by anyone, including people without an account. Your email address isn't shown to other people. Don't post anything you want to keep private.
Your location
Placard needs a location to show museums near you. You can share your device's location or enter a ZIP code.
- Your choice is saved on your phone, not in your account.
- To get recommendations, the app sends our server coordinates rounded to about 1 km. We use them for that request and don't store them.
- ZIP codes are converted to coordinates using your phone's built-in location service.
- Maps in the app are provided by your phone's map service.
You can turn off location access at any time in your phone's settings and use a ZIP code instead.
How we use information
We use it to run Placard: to sign you in, show your diary, display your activity to people who follow you, recommend museums, and send sign-in emails. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising. The app has no ads, analytics or tracking tools. This website doesn't use cookies or analytics.
Who helps us run Placard
We share information only with the service providers that run the app, and only as needed:
- Supabase hosts accounts and app data.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and our domain.
- Apple provides maps and location services on iPhone.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account is open. You can edit or delete visits at any time. To delete your account, go to Profile and tap Delete account. That permanently removes your profile, diary, Want to Visit list and follows.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your information. Email us and we'll help.
Children
Placard isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We use access controls and encrypted connections to protect your information, but no service is perfectly secure.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app.
